Half Moon Inn, Belchamp St Paul - home-cooked pub food and real ales

Opening Update

We have been carefully reviewing the Government guidelines for reopening over the last week. We have reached the decision not to open from the 4th of July. There are several reasons why:

It is our belief that your experience will be greatly compromised and far less enjoyable. Everywhere you look there would need to be prohibitive signage, restricted seating, no service or drinking at the bar, no standing drinking anywhere inside, one person in the toilets at any time, constant staff cleaning and sanitising. I imagine it will be like eating in a hospital. Every customer would be required to provide their details incase of a Covid outbreak. The atmosphere would be greatly reduced and that's not something we are happy with.

Having spoken to many of you collecting takeaways, there are still a large number of people who have said they wouldn't feel comfortable in a pub environment. This is likely to greatly reduce the number of bookings we receive.

Finally, in order to deliver the said guidelines, we would need to be fully staffed. This would be financially prohibitive due to the limited space we have.

We will be continuing to provide takeaway food as we have been since March. We will also be opening our outside tables to drinkers during the times we are providing takeaways. This means from the 9th of July, you will be able to pop down for a pint and a catch-up with friends. Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings between 6pm and 9pm, Saturday between 12pm and 2pm and Sunday between 12pm and 3pm. We will also be serving ice cream cones at these times.

Covid Compliance

We will keep the situation under constant review. We thank you all for your support and understanding.

Dave, Kat and team x

The Half Moon Inn is the quintessential historical English Pub, a stunning thatched tavern overlooking Belchamp St Paul village green. Hanging baskets, thatched roof, low beams and real log fire - it simply doesn't get more English country than this.

Built in the early 16th century, most of the original features of the pub have been lovingly maintained and the pub oozes history. The Half Moon has been at the centre of Belchamp St Paul village activity for more than four hundred years.

Dave, Katrina and the team would like to extend a warm welcome to The Half Moon.

All our food is freshly made and locally sourced where possible. We have an ever changing seasonal menu that we would love you to try. We also keep local and national real ales to the highest standard.
